We video chatted with Dr. Jones who is currently a pharmacist in Hampton, Va. Dr. Jones explained her route to pharmacy school. She was admitted to a pharmacy program as an undergrad. Dr. Jones also talks about the changes within the field of pharmacy. Years ago pharmacist were in high demand and now they are not as people have created other ways to dispense patient medication. She also spoke about the difference she is trying to make in the community. She educates her patients on drug safety. She also expressed how she feels about dispensing a drug that if one doesn't have money to pay for it. Dr. Jones said she would give them a supply to last until they could pay for it. Especially in cases where patients have a life-threatening disease like diabetes which can be fatal without insulin.

A graduate student from Wayne State medical school spoke about how she got into medical school. A topic like what the admission department is looking for, GPA requirements, and MCAT score. Also, the graduate spoke about the types of medical school programs to apply to. Overall, this was helpful because we were given insight into medical school from a med student currently in this position.

The A.M.E. Church - Easter Egg Hunt!

Today I volunteered at the AME church easter egg hunt. It was nice to see the kids enjoy themselves while learning about Resurrection Sunday. I was impacted the most by how influential adults can be in children lives. The adults that attended and volunteered at the church really make sure the children feel safe and included. Each child was truly happy the end of the event and ever adult catered to each child's specific needs (some children needed a little push to be social amongst peers). Lastly, the AME church also has a lot of community outreach programs where they provide a safe space for members and nonmembers. Next week they are having a community fish fry fundraiser where the proceeds will go to vacation bible school and other activities. I will be attending the fish fry for community service next week.
