CBCF Emerging Leaders Internship Program
SPRING INTERNSHIP PROGRAM DATES: January 14 – May 3, 2019
Sponsored by Walmart, the semester-long Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's Emerging Leaders Internship is a semester-long opportunity for undergraduate students in their junior or senior year and recent graduates with an interest in public policy and legislation to apply principles and theory learned in the classroom on Capitol Hill.
Successful candidates will work five days a week in assigned offices in the House of Representatives, the Senate, committees, and agencies. While on Capitol Hill, interns will research legislation, identify co-sponsors for various bills, help prepare for briefings and forums, and perform various office tasks. Interns will have the opportunity to attend internal meetings, local think tank events, professional development workshops, and network with interns from other institutions.
It is the mission of the CBCF Leadership Institute to diversify Capitol Hill by placing a CBCF intern in every Congressional office. During the spring and fall semesters, interns will be placed in Congressional offices on both sides of the aisle. Applicants should be aware that there is very high likelihood that they will not be placed in CBC member offices. Applicants can learn more about our mission here: Emerge 535
This program is offered during the fall (August through December) and spring (January through April) semesters. CBCF interns receive a bi-weekly stipend, in addition to housing and professional development activities.
- U.S. citizenship or permit to work in the United States (CBCF Leadership Institute does not sponsor visas)
- Currently enrolled as a junior or senior in an accredited, full-time undergraduate program
- Recent graduates are encouraged to apply so long as they have graduated less than 12 months from the internship start date
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Demonstrated interest in media arts, digital communications, public service, governance, and policy-making process
- Applicants should have a basic understanding of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit and other social networks. Experience with social measurement tools, social advertising, and Google Analytics is a plus.
