CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: UNDERGRADUATE MENTAL HEALTH RESEARCH PROGRAM
Although summer has began we have received notice for an additional opportunity. If you have not yet received an internship. Please email me your resume.

Program Overview The University of Pennsylvania Department of Psychiatry is currently accepting applications for the inaugural cycle of the Undergraduate Mental Health Research Program, an exciting new opportunity for underrepresented minority undergraduate students, and interested others, to explore careers in research in biomedical sciences relevant for the understanding of brain diseases and their treatment. Participation in this program will enable undergraduates to gain valuable exposure to basic science and/or clinical or translational research methods through intensive, full-time involvement in cutting edge research projects. Participants will also be supported in understanding and developing the skills necessary to successfully pursue advanced training in biomedical sciences through one-on-one mentorship with a Penn faculty member. Eligibility All full-time, regularly enrolled undergraduate students in good standing are eligible to apply. Program applicants should have a strong interest in pursuing an advanced/graduate degree in the biomedical sciences with a psychiatric or neurological health focus. Candidates from minority groups that are historically underrepresented in the field of biomedical research (African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Pacific Islander, etc.) and first generation college students are particularly encouraged to apply. Students currently engaged in other programs that provide funded research opportunities are not eligible. Time Commitment and Compensation Students will be provided with a $4500 stipend for participation in a full-time, 40 hour per week experience. The program will run for 7-8 during the summer. Students must be available to work on their project full-time for 7-8 full weeks during the summer. Since students will be engaged full-time during this program, participants may not be involved in any other paid employment or internship at the University of Pennsylvania during the 7-8 weeks of the program. Application To apply for the Undergraduate Mental Health Research Program, please submit a college transcript and a Personal Statement (maximum 500 words) describing career goals and areas of interest in biomedical sciences with a psychiatric or neurological health focus. All eligible student applications will be forwarded to program faculty members, who will make mentee selections.
